Holiday Prep Week 3
wrapping rules
How’s the shopping going?
If you’re working through that shopping list steadily, awesome. If not, there’s still time to catch up! Start with easy gifts first (gift cards, obvious gifts, etc) to get the momentum going and just remember that the time it takes to do it now is time you won’t spend stressing about it later when your plate is inevitably more full.
This week I’m making a wrapping plan and talking about my wrapping rule. I like to theme my wrapping paper each year but let’s be honest, even having the time and mental energy to think about such a thing is a ridiculous luxury. Let’s not stress about what we wrap things in - it’s all getting smooshed into a ball and tossed in the trash anyway.
I’d say the most important thing is just to buy some wrapping supplies, regardless of how aesthetic or themed they are. That’s the big item to check off the list this week - buy wrapping supplies. If you have the supplies early, you can pick away at it throughout November when it’s convenient.
I’m linking some super cute wrapping paper and supplies here if you need some inspiration to get going, but truly, just get some wrapping paper.
As far as wrapping rules, I just have one - it needs to be fun. This is something that seems to loom over people at the 11th hour and can feel like another tedious to do on the list, but it doesn’t have to be!
There are two ways to approach this. I personally like option one, which is to pick away at gift wrapping as gifts come in. Once a week when November rolls around I’ll find a quiet 30 minutes, close my office door, put my headphones in, make a fun holiday mocktail or cozy latte, listen to some Christmas music, and wrap gifts. Option two, which I know lots of people love is one big wrapping extravaganza at the end. Picture having a drink, watching a Christmas movie, and hanging out with your spouse while getting all the gifts wrapped at once. Whatever works for you, but make it part of the celebration!
I’ve been browsing pinterest for ideas and here are some wrappings that have caught my eye:
Next week will be the halfway mark of our holiday prep if you can believe it. November will definitely be busier so really commit to your shopping list the rest of this week. I’ll continue to share finds in Instagram stories!
