Holiday Prep Week 4
let's get the teachers set
As we cruise towards the halfway mark, I’m designating an entire week to teacher gifting. The most frequent topic of my holiday season DM’s is teacher gifting - how important it is, how expensive it is, how confusing it is. So regardless of where you are in your holiday shopping checklist, let’s pause and get the teachers handled this week. When you’re running on fumes the last days before Christmas break, you’ll be glad that you only need to pull this off the shelf and walk it in.
I dropped a question box in my instagram last week asking what some of your favorite teacher gifts have been in the past and wasn’t surprised to see cash and gift cards as 99% of the answers.
Honestly, I’m here for it. I am hugely in favor of simplifying teacher gifting and moving towards cash or gift cards as the standard. I think my kids have 12 teachers between them this year and I’d go crazy trying to come up with personalized gifts for each of them, not to mention it’s what they want.
When my girls were little and just had one or two teachers, we gave gifts to all of them and I really did enjoy getting them a thoughtful item. Now that there are so many, and life is much busier, we have them choose the teachers they’re really close to and spend the most time with and we give those teachers cash or a gift card (usually Amazon).
Decide what works best for your family and your budget and then let’s talk about packaging, because a gift card is not a cop out, especially if it’s wrapped in a fun way.
I’m all about making a little gift card into a big thank you to the people who spend more time with my kids than I do. This year I decided on custom clipboards with gift cards for all the girls’ teachers. This is the inspiration, but I’ll use holiday colors.
I ordered these clipboards from Amazon and will use my Cricut to personalize them and add Amazon gift cards to each. I usually don’t send the girls into school with their holiday gifts, instead I’ll pick a day to stop by and drop them all off in the front office. It’s a great opportunity to grab a few $5 coffee gift cards and leave those with the front office staff when you drop off - they don’t get as much love as they should!
